The Burlington Camden County Regional Chronic Disease Coalition is an organization dedicated to helping families and communities lead cancer free lives. The Coalition promotes cancer screening and early detection, along with providing educational programs to members of our community. BCCRCDC encourages proper nutrition and physical activity to help combat obesity, which is a risk factor of at least six different cancers.
Additional risk factors include:
- Alcohol use, which has been linked to cancers: of the mouth, throat (pharynx), voice box (larynx), esophagus, liver, colon and rectum, and breast. Alcohol may also increase the risk of cancers of the pancreas and stomach. For each of these cancers, the more alcohol you drink, the higher your cancer risk.
- Tobacco use, in addition to lung, causes many more types of cancer including: larynx (voice box), mouth, esophagus, throat, bladder, kidney, liver, stomach, pancreas, colon and rectum, and cervix, as well as acute myeloid leukemia. People who use smokeless tobacco (snuff or chewing tobacco) have increased risks of cancers of the mouth, esophagus, and pancreas.
The Coalition is made up of hospital systems, health care providers, government agencies, businesses, and private and non-profit organizations. If you have any interest in helping to serve the health needs of your community please reach out to us at:
